• in May 2019 I joined the editorial board of Oikos as a subject editor covering food webs, metabolic theory and predator-prey interactions.

• I am also a reviewer and recommender for Peer Community In, a service for peer review and recommendation of preprints that aims to provide a non-profit alternative compared to more traditional publishing models.  

• I have also served as ad-hoc reviewer on grant proposals for the National Science Foundation of the United States of America (NSF), the German Science Foundation (DFG), the Israel Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MIST), the British Ecological Society (BES), and the EU network BiodivERsA.  

• I am currently a member of the British Ecological Society (since 2010). I have also been a member in the past with the Ecological Society of America (2016-2022) and the Society for Conservation Biology (2018-2020).

• from 2018 to 2020 I volunteered as ambassador for ASAPbio, a scientist-driven non-profit promoting transparency and innovation in life science communication. 

• from 2009 to 2011 I was a participant in the ESF research network SIZEMIC
