Dear Colleague,
Thank you for considering your involvement in the GIPEDI Internship Program as a potential facilitator. The GIPEDI is the flagship internship program operational under the aegis of FITT, IIT Delhi in the area of Electrical Sciences (Dept of Electrical Engg , Dept of Computer Science & Engg, Instrument Design and Development Centre, Centre for Applied Research in Electronics, Dept of Physics, Centre for BioMedical Engg - only for projects in the area of Electrical Sciences).
It is restricted to the Electrical Sciences at the moment. The internship projects are undertaken in a sub-area in Electrical Sciences. Faculty from Departments / Schools / Centres of IIT Delhi with projects in Electrical Sciences are welcome to be Facilitators.

The goal of the internship is to:
- Identify and nurture students showing academic potential out of the ordinary
- Enthuse and guide them by providing roadmaps to them for higher studies
- Encouraging collateral development skills like presentation skills, design skills, fabricatio skills, theoretical skills which can provide an additional edge
If you agree to become a Facilitator, you also agree to:
- Arrange for a appropriate working place for the Intern with computing / equipment / tool facilities - this space shall be tentatively identified in the Application Form. You also undertake to take the necessary permissions and precautions needed.
- Get the Non-Disclosure Agreement signed and executed by the student if IPR is to be protected
- Arrange for a Student Mentor in the same area who may interact with the Interns on a day to day basis
- Arrange for funding stipends (this is optional) from projects operational with you
- Arrange for monitoring and reporting non-attendance
- Arrange for weekly reports and a weekly presentation (to be made by the student in person) from the student to be vetted and made available every Friday to theCoordinator of the Internship. The weekly report submission can miss deadlines only twice with prior permission before the internship is terminated.
- Provide a comprehensive performance appraisal review on your letterhead for the Intern describing the nature and grade of work done when the internship is complete. Please note that the Coordinator of the Internship Program shall only provide a Certificate of Completion certifying attendance.
BY SIGNING THE APPLICATION FORM OF THE APPLICANT AS FACILITATOR, YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE ABOVE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE INTERNSHIP.
While selecting a student as a intern, please do the following:
- Talk at length with the student and ascertain WHY the student wants to do the internship
- Ask yourself if you would want to see this student continuing with you as a Masters / PhD level student
- Ask yourself if you would like to fund this student from your project.
- Ascertain and assess the background stated by the student by conducting impromptu interviews.
- Ascertain if there are adequate resources available with you directly or indirectly for the type of project requested by the student
- Do you have the time needed for this student - are you going to be available throughout the duration the student is working here ?
- Do you agree to also provide a strong support mechanism for other needs a student is ikely to have - illness / homesickness etc ?
- Do you already have the software needed
- Do you already have the hardware needed
- Do you already have the sitting space needed
- Do you have a student who you can assign as a Student Mentor
- Can you support the student with a stipend or a honorarium
- Test communication skills of the student - the student will have to write a weekly report and give a weekly presentation.
- Do not select students just because they are known to you . In case you are requested by any party (parent / friend / colleague / applicant) representing the applicant to agree to be the facilitator on this basis, please communicate the same to the Coordinator of the Internship Program and the matter will be dealt with appropriately.
- Your feedback will be kept strictly confidential and the application will be rejected.
