Gibson County Master Gardeners worked with Safe Haven Homeless Shelter for Women and Children in Mt. Carmel, IL. While volunteering at Safe Haven, Master Gardener Linda Asbury, a Gibson County Master Gardener saw the need for some color to beautify the location. The Safe Haven project was voted on and accepted as their first project in Illinois. In May 2018 new flower pots and containers filled with cannas, supertunias, calibrachoa, and other flowers were placed near the front entrance of Safe Haven and added some much needed color. Current residents at Safe Haven learned about heat tolerant plants while planting containers.
Shown in the photo: Linda Asbury (shown) and Susanna Dewig transformed a bare stretch of land near the driveway to a colorful strip.
