River Oaks Health Campus has several gardens that Gibson County Master Gardeners help maintain. Members sometimes work along with residents who enjoy planting in the gardens.
(Return to project list)
In addition to vegetables in the raised gardens, below is an area which is strictly a flower garden for residents to enjoy.
The River Oaks campus was a challenge because most of the garden locations were in hot sun. The Signs get full sun most of the day and sun loving plants have been chosen for this area.
River Oaks Veggie Garden:
The back of the building has an area for vegetables which the chef uses. The back of the building is also a sunny spot (on the south side of the building) and additional heat comes from air conditioner units located in this partial courtyard. This area does have water available unlike the other gardens and it has to be water frequently.
Below: River Oaks residents and GCMG members work together caring for the vegetable garden.
