For week three of SC District Information Promotion, the VPHP Committee is highlighting one of the points of interest made during the panel discussion concerning the Photo ID Law.
South Carolina’s new law does not require a photo ID to vote.
To answer the rhetorical question: what do you mean?
There are a couple of ways a person can still vote without a photo ID. First, you can vote using the mail-in absentee ballot process, which is currently underway for the November 4th, General Election. To use this method, contact your county voter registration office.
You may also click on this link below to get an application or to locate your county’s office: http://www.scvotes.org/2014/10/09/absentee_voting_underway_for_general_election
Secondly, you can vote in-person by signing an affidavit stating you had a reasonable impediment to obtaining a Photo ID. After signing, you will be given a provisional ballot.
Please click on this link below and go to the bottom of the page (“If You Can’t Get a Photo ID”) to read information on this process: http://www.scvotes.org/2012/09/24/photo_id_requirements .
Additionally, I have attached the case law of Act R54 (the Photo ID Law) for you, please read the second paragraph of page 2, it states a Photo ID is not required to vote. For quick references to commonly asked questions concerning the Photo ID Law see the attached called “Talking Points”.
The VPHP Committee’s goal is to provide weekly information leading up to the General Election so that you may help disseminate it throughout your community and empower them with knowledge.
I personally thank you in advance for your participation! Please send me an email of your outreach efforts at wgilbert06@yahoo.com. If you have questions call me at (803) 446-5907.
