Greenville, South Carolina - Letter from Bobby Clark Chair of the Event:Brothers,
First, let me thank you for your support of our event. Currently, we have 204 named winners, we believe we will have 50 to 100 actual winners attend with their parents and family, totaling about 200 to 300 attendees.
Here is some information for your consideration as you attend our event.
Arrival time, Parking and Setup information:
As for the program, we will start with an opening session at 9 AM on Saturday, February 1st. We are asking all brothers be in place by 8:15 AM. The location of the event is the Trone Student Center on Furman University campus in the Watkins Room.
Parking is available in the Parking lot behind the Trone Center and next to Swan Lake (where the Furman Clock tower is located). This is the same location we have used for a number of years - although it has been newly renovated and re–named (it was formerly the University Center on Furman's Campus). We do have stairs you may need to transverse to get to the Watkins Room, so we recommend having a cart to transport your item from the parking lot to the Center.
We have light refreshments in the morning (coffee, juice, danishes) and cake and punch will be served at Noon.
Volunteers Needed:
I will need your help to put on this event. There are the several tasks I will need your assistance with during the event:
Greeters - to direct Students, parents, and Student to registration Desk
Registration Desk Staff – we need to sign up students as they come into the event
Category Coordinators - Brothers need to line student in the five categories
Readers – Brothers willing to read names as we give out the certificates
Let me know if you are available to do any of these task during the event.
Prep Meeting on Friday, January 31st.
I will also need help setting up and cleaning up the venue before and after the event. We have a Prep Meeting on Friday, January 31 at 8:15 PM to 9:15 PM at the Trone Center on Furman’s Campus. Let me know if you have some time to help on Friday night.
Program Outline:
Again, I would suggest you arrive by 8:00 AM, as the opening program start at 9 AM and we have presenters, recruiters and parents who arrive at 8:45 AM. At 9:20 AM we split into two concurrent sessions: "First Year of College" and "Financial Aid 101". Parents will be encouraged to attend the Financial Aid Session, and student winners will be asked to stay in the Watkins Room. We are offer you the opportunity to be on panel where we will have a moderator ask some initial questions to the panel and then take questions from students. The session will last from 9:20 AM to 10:20 AM.
After the sessions, we ask winners to begin lining up for the ceremony which will start at 11 AM. During this time you will have an opportunity to speak to interested parents about your schools at your display tables. At 11 AM, we award the student winners at this time and conclude the program by noon. We will then take group picture of the winners and the event will remain open until 1 PM.
