Greenville, South Carolina - Several GGL brothers attended the 2014 Upstate SC "Mind is.." Gala on Friday, March 14 at 7 PM, which benefited the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The Gala was held at the TD Convention Center on Pleaseantburg Road in Greenville, SC and had about 600 people in attendance.
UNCF raises funding for the HBCUs in South Carolina which in include four institutions in South Carolina: Voorhees College (Denmark, SC), Morris College (Sumter SC), Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC), and Benedict College (Columbia, SC). It also includes the 37 other colleges and universities across the US. Upstate UNCF's goal was to raise $100,000 for deserving college-bound students from the Upstate area. The Gala has been a premiere event in the upstate for more than a decade.
This year's event featured NuSound Band of Greenville, SC and our own Brother Don Weston was called to serve as the event's Master of Ceremonies. Several scholarship winners were showcased during the gala which enlisted several community leaders to solicit funds for this very worthy cause.
Bros. Don Weston, Al Gray, and Jimmy Durante served on the steering committee and Bros. Rich Hagins and Bobby Clark attended the event.
Brothers are encouraged to support UNCF cause by sending a donation to support local effort. Questions about pledges can be directed to Bros. Durante and Weston at future chapter meetings on by contacting us by the chapter contact email.
