Honors Section

Those students who would like honors credit for German 330 should complete a research project in addition to the other requirements of the class. In order to fulfill this project, I would like you to choose ONE of the following options:

1) Expand your 5-page final paper to a 10-page research paper.

OR---

2) With Professor McFarland’s help, choose a short text that needs to be added to Sophie: A Digital Library of the Works of German-Speaking Women (found at the following website: http://sophie.byu.edu ). At some point in the semester, Prof. McFarland will hand out an assigned text to you. Go to the Sophie Website, find the “Resources” bar, click on it, then find the “Tools” bar, and click on it for descriptions of formatting and a guide to the Gothic Alphabet. Then, you will type the text into modern font, edit out any mistakes and write glossed explanations of unfamiliar place names, historical figures and events, archaic words, etc. One person in the group will be chosen as an editor for the whole class project. Some time in the near future, your text will be added to the on-line Sophie collection and available to scholars all over the world.
