This extraordinary story begins; Avro Lancaster bomber LM111 WP-G, with F/O Navigator George Leslie Smith 156347 (RAFVR) & crew on-board, airborne at 21:35 on 7 Aug 1944, from 90 Squadron at RAF Tuddenham as part of the Eastern Task Force of Operation Totalize, to bomb troop concentrations near Falaise in the Normandy Battle Zone, ahead of advancing Allied ground troops. With 1,019 aircraft taking part in the operation and attacking carefully controlled bombing points, 660 aircraft actually bombed causing damage to German strong points and roads.
Ainsi commence cette histoire extraordinaire: Envol à 21h35 le 7 août 1944, de 90 escadron de la RAF Tuddenham dans le cadre de l'opération Totalize, afin de bombarder une concentration de troupes près de Falaise, dans la zone de bataille Normande, en amont de l’avancement des troupes au sol alliées. Parmi les 1019 avions prenant part à l’opération et attaquant avec precision les points de bombardement, 660 avions ont causé des dommages aux points forts et aux routes allemandes.
LM111 WP-G in formation of two parallel bomber streams, came onto the targets from north to south. The bombing of Mar-sur-Orne and La Hogue commenced at 23:00, Fontenav-le-Marmion and Secueville-la-Campagne at 23:20 and, finally, Mare-de-Magne at 23:40. They then exited in a loop to the east.
Avec deux courants de bombardiers parallelès, est entré dans les cibles du nord au sud. Les bombardements de May-sure-Orne et de La Houque ont commencé à 23h00, de Fontenay-le-Marmion et de Secueville-la-Campagne à 23h20 et enfin de MAre-de-Magne à 23h40. Ils sont ensuite sortis en boucle vers l'est.
