Class Usage
AGE CONSIDERATIONS
In practice, this means not using GoodReads below Grade 8.
If you want a social reading tool for younger children, see Biblionasium.
READING LOGS
Having students keep a reading log via google docs and link to their Goodreads reviews or ratings is a tidy way to keep track of student reading that is much easier than trying to track your students on Goodreads alone.
QUOTES
Students can collect quotes or "golden lines" and tag them. This is an example from a G7 student:
CREATIVE USE OF SHELVES
Students can title their own bookshelves; Curating is an important skill in regards to personal knowledge management. It might be useful to set a few standard shelves that you can use to track their reading habits (books-i-abandoned, favorite-rereads, my-mom-wants-me-to-read, someday-maybe-books).
FOLLOWING YOUR STUDENTS' ACTIVITY
If you follow your students' instead of friending them, you can casually track their usage and filter them out when you don't want to see their reviews and ratings.
