The diagram below shows the differences between the eastings and between the northings of places with
names beginning "Great" and "Little". The bins of the histograms are 1 km wide. There is no reason for the
"Great" places to be more northerly, easterly, southerly or westerly than the "Little" places, and this is what
is seen; the distributions are centred on zero, the centre of the chart. Furthermore, the widths of the
distributions in eastings and northings do not appear to be significantly different. The RMS separation of
pairs of places is about 1.69 km, the accuracy being limited by the fact that positions in the OS open data
are given as the centre of the 1km squares on the OS maps. The circles have had a random amount with a
range of +- 0.5 km added to their X and Y coordinates to break the degeneracy.
