always take one more step than you intended to
After the discovery of a tiny tunnel here in the vicinity and that the road that leads there was on trail and through a church and a cemetary, and the road leading back passed another church we had no choice than to figure out a way to incorporate this into a race. Pairing this with the easy logistics of doing cannonball marathons, where the length is measured in laps and not length, no matter how long the laps are! Combining this with night running for adventure (and since we do not have anything better to do in the nights) we finally had a race. An ultra that was scenic, trail-ish, long and hard but still "easy".

Spring has arrived. And so has the urge for the runners in Scania to run far! Many heeded the call, some came and ran and a few completed their distance of choice. There was one surprise visit/pacer all the way from Stockholm (welcome back Anna Odebrant) as well as a surprise participant 30 minute before the start. Fredrik came early this time - 100 seconds before start. And two other came like an hour late - no problem, the time/clock starts at 18:00 for everyone ... Weather wise - again it was just purrrfect. Almost a full moon, bright and unwindy all through the night. Not cold despite the 8-ishºC, just so cold that if you walked to much, it was cold ... One participant opted for the full monty - 100 miles! All on her lonesame for the last 20+ hours or so. There was also a new course records, Fredrik the Lähnn ran 8:43:20 beating the old record (his own) by a quarter of an hour. This also makes him the winningiest gax-runner eber (!) with a total of eight victories! More than half of the proceeds were given to those in need - the people of Afghanistan. This race marked the 68:th gax-event since 2006. Course records are for 50 miles: 8:43:20 (Fredrik Lähnn 2025), 10:51:55 (Malou Björnslätt 2024) & for 100 miles 25:50.37 (Malou Björnslätt 2025).

The sky was beautiful that day my friends. Lovely sunset and crisp autumn air. Many heard the calling to run fifty night miles, some were injured, some worked and a few had other issues ... In the end three brave ones stood on the starting line. This was the fifth time we had a 50-mile race. Fredrik Lähnn came first for the sixth time in a gax event. Good on ya. On Swede, one Dane and one half-half lined up. The weather was stable all through the night at a steady at 8ºC. No reported phenomenas. More than half of the proceeds were given to those in need - the people of Afghanistan. This race marked the 64:th event and 566:th start in a gax-race. New (!) course records are: 8:56:31 (Fredrik Lähnn 2024) & 10:51:55 (Malou Björnslätt 2024).

The sky was angry that day my friends ... Or, it was quite nice the first half hour, then it started to rain. But only the first ten hours. It dribbled then it rained cats. And dogs. And nails. From the sides. From down below. From beyond. With a strong wind gust. Ew! This combined with dampness and 4° made the race much tougher than we expected. After eight hours some hands had lost almost all function. But the the rain eventually stopped and the sun came out, or, actually, it was the moon. But the wind stopped and so did the rain. Life returned to limbs and heart. Although the last 10 km was a brisk walk for most life was goood. Everybody saw hundreds of wild life! Or, we can call it frogs ... (and a few hares, , rats, cats, ducks, earthworms and fish). The small cute tunnel filled up with water the last two laps, fun times (climbs) indeed. The route was diverse and new, exciting and picturesque. But there were sooo many long rolling small, but long flat hills. This was noticed on the first lap and then the hills became steeper for every lap. More than half of the proceeds are given to those in need - the people of Afghanistan. This race marked the 63:rd event and 563:rd start of a gax-race. Course records are: 10:42:13 (Peter Bengtsson 2024) & 12:56:56 (Anna Odebrant/Malou Björnslätt 2024).
