anything worth doing is worth doing to the extreme
Totally inspired by the Fat Ass-movement of Canada and the small time-social runs of our own capital, I thought that at least once a year the few ultrarunners in the county of Scania could gather and run all day - this will at least give one a sence of the achievements of the hemerodromoids. The right time to do this is of course when the elements of nature are at its best - deepest winter. The beginning of the year is also perfect to prepare for the races as no other competitions are being organized. Starting in 2010 it is meant to become an annual event. This event incorporates three important ingredients of ultramarathon, running, drinking coffee and talking.
if you can dream it, you can do it
What: A very long informal group run of 50+ km.
When: 2010-2019.

Route: A very scenic route.
Qualification: Just the joy to run far.
Equipment: You might need a bit of gear and clothes.
Accomodation: There are many Youth Hostels as well as both cheap and expensive hotels.
Shower: Not made available by organization.
Getting there: The start is at a a very central hub with many bus and train options.
Rules: Cheating or littering is not allowed. To help a fellow runner is mandatory.
Weather: Might be the coldest day of the year, might be minus 15 °C and heaps of snow.
Animals: Elk, fox, stoat, deer, snake, lama, harbour porpoise etc. have been seen during gax.

Returned to the original route for this final event. For the first time a few people got lost! Which made a perfect finish of this event with the longest day yet by far! Perfect weather ... as always ... But the route in Torup was about 50 % pure ice. No accident this time fortunately. Winner of the day was Christoffer who upped his maximum km by runnig 16 km longer than ever!

As always - cheers and good camaraderie. The day was perfect winter weather just below zero degrees. No incidents or problems whatsoever. There were no newbies to the ultra distance this year, so no awards ... The route started (and ended in Lund) and we ran towards Skrylle and did a few laps (and cups of coffee) there.

An all time record of 34 participants . Considering it still was mid winter - a little rain and pretty much no wind was very berable. Six participants transcended themselves by running longer than the standard marathon distance for the first time. The route started in Helsingborg and went both through fields and forests, paths and beside Oresund. The run finished before dark and all came to the Central Station together.Very. Nice.

A record 17 local participants. Despite it being winter it was such perfect running weather, a bit damp but quite warm. The breakfast buffet was perfect and the afternoon "fika" was crowded. Quite awesome. Everybody ran the kilometers they had decided but 15 out of 17 opted for the full monty. The route this year was new - being a full circle rather than a out-and-back with a few loops around a race HQ/café. Most thought it was even better! We ran from Lund to Malmö and on to Lomma and Bjärred back to the start.

A record 30 participants - a 20 % increase - was more than imagined. Despite the weather showing strong winds the weather showed it's good side. The winds were quite weak and even the sun shone down on a few of us. The temperatures rarely went below zero. Everybody ran the kilometers they had decided but most opted for the full monty. The route started in Helsingborg and went north through the suburbs and forests to a café where we afterwards spent all our breaks - a breakfast buffé and a la carte dinner. We finished the run before dark and all came to the Central Station together. Very. Nice.

Starting traditionally at 08:00 in a warm waiting room it felt especially harsh to get out in minus ten degrees to run. But not nearly as hard as it felt to hit the whining winds on Hardebergaspåret. Time flew by really quickly and at exactly 10:00 we went in to the warmth and coffe of Skryllegården. Back again to hit the trails of woods all 25 of us - new participant record. Unfortunately the road stopped to early for one of us. Tommy Jensen slipped badly on a patch of ice and luckily a car just came right there and then in the woods and drove him straight to the emergency room in Lund! A crushed malleolus was diagnosed and a big red plaster was attached and he was sent home after five hours with crutches. The rest of the party struggled on and as the weather got warmer (-5 °C) time flew by faster. After a big hearty dinner and another coffee break we arrived in Lund just when it got dark. All but the one unlucky guy ran (at least) 50 km and had a hell of a great day.

Weather was sadly just very wintery and pretty, just below zero and beautiful snow without slush. No machismo needed at all. We exceeded previous record of 21 participants (last year) with one runner who joined us at Skrylle. Nine runners tried the format/event for the first time, most were repeat offenders. The run to the Nature Reserve went perfect and after a short run around the Elljusspår we came to the restaurant precisely at 10:00 when it opened. After coffee and another ten km we all got our own room for lunch and after another ten km and more coffee/dessert we were 16 runners who took the Hardebergaspår home. A lot of walking followed and the more avid runners ran in circles all or at least half the way. We all arrived to the Central Station together. Formy part (Event Director) – this just keeps getting better andbetter. Two runners have run all four editions of the gax training pass and will for sure comeback next year.

The organizer could not be there due to the flu so two volunteers took care of the whole sweet ordeal! Jim Degrenius and Zingo Andersen ran with the lot the whole day and organized everything so that the gax training pass could be held for the third year in a row. And from what I have heard from the other participants - they did it perfectly. The weather was pretty great being a Swedish winter day and everything went smooth. A few runners ran a little distance further.

Contrary to last year this day might have been the finest winter day this one around - crisp and clear, spring feeling and no wind. Very enjoyable and very smooth running (at least the first few hours before some fatigue set in). Everybody ran the kilometres they had chosen before the event and it seemed that everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. After a few k:s of city sightseeing we ran straight ahead for almost an hour through the plains of Scania before we came to the Nature Reserve. Three k:s on a marked trail followed before it was time for the first break, coffee and cakes, water and rest. After this we ran 10 k:s was before a real long lunch break which was followed by another 10 k:s which in turn (again - as planned, this was half of the idea) was followed by the long road home again. A rookie took "lines honour" just one k in front of another youth because she ran 31 k:s longer than her previous length record. Evidence can be seen on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnSsnnG7hIk.

The race organizer and another runner nervously waited at the appointed place from 7:45 runners as one by one the runners arrived just minutes before starting to defy the rarely seen real winter of Scania, very cold and temperature down to minus nine degrees. The start went smoothly and after just four minutes the (sole) audience cheered us on. The last runner joined the group in Rosengård and on the plains the wind came and almost swept us away. Through a bicycle path coverd in half a metre of snow we ran towards Torup Castle and Torups Friluftsgård where we had coffee and warmth. The first 10 km-loop went pretty slow in the deep snow aswell as the lunch afterwards. The next loop was followed by yet another coffee break. Everybody was pretty much soaked to the bone by the slush now but on the way back everybody seemed even happier. All of a sudden we reached the finished and had even more coffee and potatochips, souvenirstickers and coca cola. Evidence can be seen on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn84DiOlJ8o.
