Judith Ortiz Cofer is a published poet, novelist, and essayist.
She writes mainly about the experience of living in Puerto Rico and being Puerto Rican
She earned the title Regents and Franklin Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Georgia
She has taught literature in UGA since 1984
Although she was born in Puerto Rico, she has lived in Georgia for most of her life

Today she lives on her husband's farm in Louisville, Georgia
