Born: 1924 in Rome, Georgia
Edgar Bowers spent most of his childhood in various parts of the state.
He went to the University of South Carolina to earn his bachelor's degree and earned his Ph.D at Stanford University
His studies were interrupted by WWII service
When he came back home, he taught at Duke University
His first book of poems was called, "The Form of Loss" (1956)

"Collected Poems" (1997)
His poems include the horrific sights from WWII
Some of his poems explore the topic of the past, of friends, of values, and of humanity
He earned the Bollingen Prize for Poetry
