I passed the RAE way back in 1984 at the age of 15, my first contact was on 2m ssb with G4YYE, my equipment consisted of a Yaesu FT290 , the antenna was a 8 element yagi by Jaybeam. I later changed the radio with help from the bank of Mum & Dad for a Yaesu FtDx401, Hf valve transceiver driving a Microwave Modules 145 mhz transverter with all intentions to gain a full A class licence , I started morse classes at Grimsby colledge but seem to remember that more interesting ....... Hmmmm young ladies and public houses !!!! got in the way , Ah should of stuck at it .
