What has been taking up my time

You know, even as you have the day job and the musical career, real life has a way of intruding.

In my case, it's been the basement - specifically, the workshop. It's been a mess for about five of the past twenty-five years. About a year ago, a pegboard holding some tools fell off the wall, making an even bigger mess. Frankly, I didn't want to face it. So it's been sitting.

Last weekend, I started on cleaning it. This weekend, I finished the job. Basically, I had one rule - if it hadn't been used in the past five years and I didn't see a particular need for it in the upcoming year, it went. I had about three bins of old computer equipment that went to Free Geek. Old wood is getting recycled. Building supplies went to the Rebuilding Center. Tools I don't use went to the local tool library (and my wife and I got memberships, in case I need something). I kept the normally-used tools - saws, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches (monkey, open-end, and socket), and pliers. They're all going into a toolbox. I'm buying a cordless drill (I think I'm the last person on earth who had a model with a cord). And I kept all of my electronics stuff. And I had a few old things that went to these guys.

But now, the floor and shelves are clear and all I need to do is a final organization of the stuff on the workbench - which I'll tackle Wednesday evening. I'm glad it's over.

Next project: Re-organize studio space and install new audio interface.
