A small break...

I’m finally getting a chance to wind down a bit* after a hectic Summer with This, Not This!. We played three times in the last week and a half and I’m very happy for the break. We don’t play again for a whole two weeks! When we played our first date last September, we had thought we would perform about once a month. By spring, it had crept up to about twice a month and, this summer, we’ve been playing about three times a month. Thankfully, after our August 27’th gig at the Twilight Café, we have another month off (and we won't be filling in any more jobs during that time, as Gary is going to be on vacation then). And that’s good because we’ll need the time to finish the This, Not This! EP, which we start to mix next Tuesday (16 August). Six songs, but they’re our best ones as far as I’m concerned. We tracked them mid-last-month and Brad (The Vault’s engineer) and Dave (our drummer) and I couldn’t get together until a month later to start mixing… Go figure – you’d think we had other work or something…

We’ll probably come out of Tuesday with some fairly decent initial mixes that we can give to the rest of the band. I'll let them listen to them and let them figure out what they want changed while I'm in Illinois over Labor Day weekend**. After I listen to them bitch about how the mix sucks, we'll incorporate appropriate changes and, with any luck, be ready for mastering and manufacturing. I foresee a September release.

* But only a bit - see next blog post.

** I'll be there with Shiver (one my old college bands), getting ready for a reunion gig in Kalamazoo, MI late next winter or early next spring.
