Members filling these positions will monitor their committee; attend executive board meetings as well as general meetings. The board will determine meeting times.
President
Oversees all aspects of the PTA. Presides at all executive and general PTA meetings.
President Elect (defaults to Vice President, if President Elect is not identified)
Aid to the President and performs duties of President in his/her absence or disability. Oversees all social committees. The President Elect will assume the President role the following year, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Treasurer (PTA will function without this position if no one is identified)
Manages all funds of PTA including all income and expenses, cash flow and budget performance. Handles all monetary transactions as authorized, provides cash box for all PTA activities, and meets all financial and reporting requirements of the MPTSA.
Treasurer Elect (or Co-Treasurer)
Aid to the Treasurer in the first year, with the assumption that the Treasurer Elect will fill the Treasurer role the following year (barring any unforeseen circumstances).
Secretary
Records and distributes minutes of executive and general meetings. Maintains and distributes minutes, and maintains PTA calendar. The Communications Support person, Webmaster, and Legislative Liaison report to the Secretary.
Past President
Aid new President in position and hold additional chairperson or event coordinator position. This position is only applicable during the new President’s first term and only if Past President has children at school.
Committee Chairpersons
Fundraising Chair – Supervise all fundraising activities by working with leads for each event. Present new fundraising ideas to Executive Board when necessary/appropriate.
Educational Enrichment Chair – Responsible for selection and procurement for educational programs for school (e.g., Reflections, Science-Math-History Nights, Art Smart, Math Pentathlon). Supervise each program by working with program leads. All activities are to be approved by the staff and Executive Board.
Special Projects Chair – Oversee and organize school wide special projects (e.g., Junior Optimist Club, Green Committee, Staff Appreciation, etc.).
Membership Chair – Collect dues for PTA from parents and staff, maintain membership records for Michigan PTA and assist with distribution of school directories and membership materials. Oversees the Directory Committee.
FUNDRAISING
Fall Fundraiser
Coordinate major fall fundraising activity. Minimum of 7-8 people on committee with one or more leads.
School Apparel Sale
(Spring planning/Fall sale). Coordinate sale of Forest apparel such as sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, etc. 2-3 people.
Book Fair
Organize and oversee Book Fairs (fall and spring). 1-2 people.
Dining Out
Coordinate 1-2 Dining Out events during the school year, with % of proceeds going back to the school. 1 person.
Pizza Kits/Other Food Sales
Coordinate food sale programs (i.e. Little Caesar’s Pizza Kits). 1-2 people.
Flower Sale
Spring sale of flats, hanging baskets, etc. Coordinate with supplier and organize the sale and delivery of plant materials. 2-3 people.
Kids Kreations / Display My Art
Coordinate program where students create artwork that can be turned into products such as note cards, mugs, t-shirts, etc. 1 person.
Grocery Cards
Coordinate program with grocery store vendors whereby families sign up and a portion of the money spent at these stores comes back to Forest.
Box Tops
Coordinate collection and submission of Box Tops to earn money for Forest. Classroom prizes are often offered to reward the classes that submit the most Box Tops.
Kindergarten Meet & Greet
Organize family get-together for incoming kindergartners just prior to start of school (usually on Forest playground). 2-4 people.
Ice Cream Social
Plans and coordinates the Ice Cream Social which often takes place on one of the first few nights of the school year. Again, this event requires planning before school starts. 2 people.
Enchanted Forest
Organize this Halloween hike through the Forest Nature Trial. 2-4 people to chair.
Variety Show
Coordinate all aspects of the show (auditions, publicity, music, programs rehearsals, etc.). 3-4 people.
Buddy Breakfast
Plan and organize a morning before school for students and a guest. This event runs during the Spring Book Fair. 2-4 people.
Family Fun Night
Coordinate 2-3 family events throughout the school year. 2-3 people.
Field Day (late May/early June)
Organize and oversee an afternoon of fun outdoor non-competitive events for all students. Takes place during the school day. 2-4 people.
School Carnival (early June)
Organize and oversee games, bouncers, food and prizes for this annual year-end event. 3-4 people.

After-school Enrichments
Organize educational enrichment classes to be held after school at Forest in a variety of subjects (fee for participation). Examples include classes such as engineering, dance, theater, chess, Spanish, etc.
Assemblies
Work with principal to select assemblies, schedule and implement. 2 people.
WordMasters
Coordinate program information and training to parent helpers in 3rd and 4th grade for this enrichment activity. 1 person.
Math Pentathlon
Provide information and training to parent helpers in all grades for this enrichment activity and competition. 1 person.
Reflections (Fall)
Coordinate this National PTA sponsored Arts Program. 3-4 people.
Book Swap
Coordinate this event which allows students to swap books with other students
Science Fair / Science Night (Winter to early Spring)
Coordinate & plan event with staff. 2-3 people.
Robotics
Coordinate this enrichment activity, which occurs after school, and allows students to learn robotics and perhaps compete locally.
Junior First Lego League
Coordinate a Lego club that takes place after school, and will lead into Robotics participation in the future for some students. 2-3 people.
Cartooning Workshop
Coordinate this one-time after school activity (could occur twice during school yearf. 1 person.Gleaners/Community Service Coordinator
This person will coordinate a day in which students and their families can volunteer at a local charity (e.g., Gleaners). 1-2 people
Green Committee
Support school functions relating to the environment, including network with staff representative towards Michigan Green Schools. Plans Forest “Go Green” Family night. 2-4 people
Junior Optimist Club
Junior Optimist motto is "Kids helping kids". Responsibilities include: Communicate with the Forest Community re the Club, organize mtg times/dates that work for members. Guide students of the Club in selecting/implementing community service projects. 1-2 people
Staff Appreciation Week (May)
Coordinate and plan a luncheon and different activities for the staff, to be held at a time that works well for both staff and the PTA. 5-6 people.
Staff Conference Dinners
Coordinate a dinner for the teachers during fall and spring evening conferences. 2-3 people.
Staff Breakfast
Coordinate a breakfast for the staff the day they return to school in the fall. 1-2 people.
Directory (Fall)
Collect data and prepare school directory to be given with PTA memberships. Responsible for ad sales and distribution. This position works closely with membership chairperson. 4-5 people.
Communications Support
Creates, coordinates and/or approves PTA communications to the general membership and school community. Manages PTA related List Serv communications. Promote Forest events through social media and community press. Inform local media about great Forest events and awards received. Report to Secretary. 1-2 people.
Webmaster
Update current events and flyers to the Forest PTA website. Report to Secretary. 1 person.
Legislation Liaison/PTA Council Representative
Attend PTA Council Meetings (not usually more than once per month), keep abreast of school district, statewide and federal school issues, and notify the Executive Board (specifically the Secretary) and General Membership of updates.
Yearbook/Photography
Responsible for taking photographs throughout the school year at events and functions and then creating Forest’s yearbook. 4-6 people.
