Eight members and five visitors enjoyed a great day at Mount West top dam for our first FFA Club Day. We all arrived by 08h30, and after a quick chat and sharing of equipment, got serious at about 09h00. The top dam had lots of water, but also a considerable amount of weed close to the banks which offered limited access to those not in waders. Although the day was fine, we had a fairly strong wind through the day which made casting a challenge for all. Needless to say we all basically ended up on the same side of the dam.
We broke for wors rolls lunch at midday, and were surprised with some complimentary Black Bottle whisky courtesy of Mike Mayo of Distell, one of Harry's visitors - hence the large Black Bottle advertising in some of the pictures. We look forward to hosting Mike at one of club meetings for a whisky tasting!
The whisky certainly lifted all our spirits and we headed out for an afternoon session, ending off at 15h30.
For all the effort, determination and confidence, we only managed to net one fish - probably just under 1kg. Nonetheless, our visitors appeared to have enjoyed themselves, and we hope to see them more regularly.
