You should join the FFA if you want to add a social element to your fly fishing. If you've never fly fished you will not feel uncomfortable in our club. Many of our active members came to our meetings from out the blue, maybe having heard of us through a tackle shop or a friend. We're about enjoying fly fishing. We like the surroundings and the weather. We fish together to relax. There is little stress or strain at the FFA. This is all about finding out what it is that you enjoy about fly fishing, and then doing it.
If you've never fished in your life before, let alone fished light flies, you won't feel uncomfortable at the FFA. Make no mistake we have some very accomplished fly fishermen and women in our midst, but having a good time with us has little to do with how many fish you can catch. It's about enjoying each others' company, helping each other and having fun. If you've never fished before, come to one of our regular general meetings and meet a few folk. We do care that you feel welcome at the club, and will make an effort to introduce ourselves to new faces. Have a drink and listen to our guest presentation. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't mistake our animated discussion for rudeness - we do care that you are properly welcomed, but sometimes we lose focus. Be patient - this sport is addictive!
The FFA is a small club of men and women who enjoy fly fishing in all its extent, but also enjoy social interaction with others around our fancied hobby/sport/fetish. We belong to the FFA because we like some of the other members and we enjoy the opportunity to go fishing with them. Other clubs do offer more water than the FFA, but few have a social element to rival the FFA. It is not uncommon for FFA members to belong to other bodies related to the sport, offering them more water, a more competitive environment, or a specilised look at fly fishing at with fly tying. You join a group that satisfies your needs. At the FFA we look after our social needs more than our fishing needs. Many of us fish very regularly at waters not licenced to the FFA, so the lack of club waters does not deter their enthusiasm for this club.
What's the Best About Our Club?
"I've met some great people at the club who have helped me enjoy my fishing more. Fishing is good - friends are too."
