Asst. Prof. Dr. Wen-Ting Wu
The Assistant Professor of the Graduate Institute of Museum Studies at Fu Jen University in Taipei, Taiwan.
Fields of Research
My research focuses on Chinese and European ceramic history, decorative arts, and material culture studies. My doctoral research at Heidelberg University examined the circulation and appropriation of Chinese porcelain in eighteenth-century Europe and China, analyzing how objects moved across cultural and political contexts and how they were reinterpreted within different collecting traditions. Through the perspectives of global history and material culture, my work investigates the interactions between artistic production, trade networks, and cultural exchange.
My research also engages with museum practice, curatorial work, and object-based research. Through my postdoctoral work at the Graduate Institute of Art History at National Taiwan University and collaborations with museums in Europe and Taiwan, I have been involved in exhibition planning, object research, and collection management. These experiences include curating exhibitions on modern ceramic painting and conducting research on enamel decoration across China, Europe, Japan, and the Islamic world. My work combines historical analysis with practical curatorial methods, emphasizing how museum collections and exhibitions can generate new interpretations of global artistic exchange.
In addition, my recent research explores issues of museum accessibility and inclusive exhibition design. I am particularly interested in how museums can develop more accessible environments and educational programs for diverse audiences, including people with disabilities and aging populations. By integrating museum studies, material culture research, and curatorial practice, my work aims to contribute to the development of museums as inclusive spaces for cultural learning and public engagement.
