Decided to go for a ride, burn off the Ethanol and go to Issaquah for some Ethanol free gas.
This is the Monday after the Saturday that I got new tires.
Green circle is my house, red is where I dropped it. 2.7 miles.
Riding on 232 Ave. A few leaves, not many.
Turn just before stop sign, still no leaves.
As I came up on stop sign, I had already slowed way down for the bend, worrying about wet leaves and brand new tire.
I was definately thinking, the bike might slide, be ready. Light on the bars, feet off the pegs.
I was expecting the leaves to move beneath the tire, and cause some slipping. Going ~5 to 10 mph max.
What I got instead was, even with light front brake, the leaves were so slippery that they offered no resistence to the tire,
so the front wheel locked up. In one small instant, I was on my way over, and my foot on the ground was useless, as it slid too.
Red X is where front wheel locked.
Looking backwards from where it went down, leaves didn't show any movement or slide, they were unaffected by the braking tire.
The damage.
Not a mark on my jacket or boots, small scratch on my slider. Sprained left wrist, some minor pain in my back/shoulder.
I was VERY angry.
ABS would not have helped, not at such a low speed, but I should have been using almost all back brake, not front.
