Marv was nice enough to join me for a ride to a very hot (103) Leavenworth.
I have always loved that canyon leading into town with the mountains
and the river, and I wanted to see how bad the fire damage was.
This is at the rest area by Coles Corner. The ride up Steven's Pass
was "warm" but a nice ride. As soon as we started down the east
side, the temps were in the high 90s.
This is the fire smoke as seen from the rest area.
They had this map there so we could see what
was burning this day.
Shortly after Coles, we had to wait ~10 minutes for a pilot car to
lead us through the canyon. Temps here were already 100+.
The air was pretty foul, and ashes could be seen collecting on our bikes.
It was a slow hot ride into town.
Pretty sad to see all this damage, and what's visable
here is a tiny portion of the total. Its still only
26% contained.
The last 5 miles into town did not have fire damage.
I had a good German late lunch at my favorite
restaurant: http://www.kingludwigs.com/
Wiener Schnitzel with Red Potatoes, and Rotkraut (Red Cabbage),
a side of Spätzle, and a nice very dark porter.
(Best not to say what Marv had!)
We took Chumstick back to avoid the fire delays, traffic was
quite light.
