Sunil Mithas is a World Class Scholar and professor, and serves as a director (Rankings and Reputation) at the Muma College of Business. He is a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the UNSW Business School, Sydney. Previously, Sunil was the Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Information Systems at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, where he served as Associate Chair, and co-directed two Centers. He has held visiting positions at the University of California Davis, UNSW Sydney, University of Mannheim, and HKUST Hong Kong.
Sunil is recognized among the foremost information systems scholars in the world. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Information Systems Society of INFORMS, an AIS Fellow, a Marketing Science Institute Young Scholar, and a Vaishwik Bhartiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Fellow. He is the author of two books, and his research published in top journals and conferences have won multiple best-paper awards, and featured in practice-oriented publications such as the MIT Sloan Management Review, Management Business Review, and Bloomberg. Mithas is an Advisory Editor of Information Systems Research, a Department Editor of Production and Operations Management, and is on Editorial Board of Journal of Management Information Systems. Earlier he served on the Editorial Board of MIS Quarterly.
He has consulted and conducted research with organizations that include A. T. Kearney, EY, Johnson & Johnson, the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the Tata Group. He is a frequent keynote speaker in corporate and academic settings. Mithas had a decade-long successful career at the Tata group in engineering, marketing, and general management positions before he dedicated himself to an academic career. He earned his Ph.D. from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and an engineering degree from IIT, Roorkee.

· 2024 Vaishwik Bhartiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Fellow by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under Management category (the only Fellow award in that category). The VAIBHAV Fellowship “aims at improving the research ecosystem of India’s Higher Educational and Scientific Institutions by facilitating academic and research collaborations between Indian Institutions and the best institutions in the world through mobility of faculty/researcher from overseas institutions to India.” [1]
· 2024 Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow Award: The AIS Fellow Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the information systems discipline in terms of research, teaching and service (https://aisnet.org/page/FellowAward).
· 2022 INFORMS Information Systems Society (ISS) Distinguished Fellow Award: This is one of the most prestigious lifetime achievement awards for the information systems scholars (https://connect.informs.org/iss/awards/fellow-award). The primary aim of the award is to recognize individuals who have made outstanding intellectual contributions to the information systems discipline. The award recognizes the multi-dimensional nature of intellectual contributions including, but not limited to: (1) Publications that have made a significant impact on theory, research, and practice, (2) Intellectual leadership in the discipline as reflected in editorial appointments, particularly of INFORMS journals, (3) Intellectual stewardship of the field as reflected in the mentoring of doctoral students and young researchers.
· 2011 Marketing Science Institute (MSI) Young Scholar. This award selects about 20 plus "the most promising 'younger' …academics" and a "likely leader of the next generation of marketing academics" every two years.
