Fibre interactions in composites: effects of fibre shape

The objective of this project is to investigate the mechanism of fibre interactions in fibre composites under an axial tensile load.
This project is carried out using finite-element analysis to evaluate the stresses in fibres of the following shapes: straight-taper (conical) ends, parabolodial ends, ellipsoidal ends and uniform cylindrical, embedded in and reinforcing a matrix material;
(A) Uniform cylindrical fibre; (B) fibre with conical ends; (C) fibre with paraboloidal ends; (D) Ellipsoidal fibre.
