Event Data Recorders (EDR) or Airbag Control Modules are installed on almost all vehicles and their primary function is to determine if airbag deployment is needed in a crash situation. These boxes also record valuable information, such as speed, acceleration, brake and steering input, seatbelt usage and other technical information even if the airbag did not deploy. With special equipment, this information can be imaged for analysis with other crash data collected. Depending on circumstances the EDR can be imaged directly from the vehicle through the DLC connector or the EDR module can be removed or accessed for a direct to module imaging of the data.
All Tesla models, Kia and Hyundai require special equipment for imaging their EDR modules. We have that special equipment and do most every vehicle.
The report generated can be used to interpret many of the vehicle functions seconds before the crash. It is essential to know what the data in the report means. Mr. Anderson can explain this data in simple terms.
Truck downloads are also available to provide valuable information in crashes involving tractor trailers and other large trucks.
