Examination of crash vehicles and the objects they struck can provide valuable information as to what transpired during the crash. Linking vehicle damage to the corresponding object or other vehicle that caused that damage often unlocks many mysteries of what happened in the crash. Determining the primary direction of force (PDOF) is crucial in establishing the direction the vehicles were traveling at impact. Interior damage can be linked to occupant injuries to determine what caused those injuries. Speed at impact can sometimes be determined by evaluation of the crush damage.
