Biomechanical Analysis is the application of mechanical principles to living organisms.
In crash reconstruction, biomechanical analysis can provide a more detailed understanding of the forces as they act upon the human body, given the understanding of the overall vehicle forces effected. For example, a common issue is whether or not the forces generated by a vehicle crash are of sufficient magnitude to cause an injury to an occupant. A biomechanical analysis will reveal the level of forces as they act upon the body, and more specifically, a particular human body component.
Matching interior vehicle damage to occupant injuries can also be used to prove/disprove seating positions within a crash vehicle.
