To download Evo(rand), click on the file attached at the bottom of this page. It is a Microsoft Installer file.
Latest version: 1.1.5. Changes from 1.1.3 (1.1.4 was just an evolution of 1.1.3 to allow demo):
- Add graphical display of genealogical tree and improve criteria for defining species.
- Allow save / load of a simulation (a suggestion from Eric Burton).
- Improved memory management (a long run with more than 10.000 creatures should remain within 500 Mbytes).
- Various bug fixes, improvements to usability, updated help pages.
Evorand1.1.4demo.msi is a demo version which automatically starts the simulation with the 3D view and stats graph.
Evorand1.1.3.zip is a ZIP of all the files installed and a registry file, for Linux installations.
Windows installation (MSI): the installation creates a shortcut on the desktop and an entry in the Start application menu, which can be used to start the simulator.
Linux installation (ZIP), needs 'wine' and 'regedit.exe': once downloaded, unzip in any directory. Modify Evorand.reg to change the path entry. Run 'wine regedit.exe Evorand.reg' and then 'wine Evorand.exe'.
Thanks to Eric Burton for testing this together and providing the steps.
There are a number of known bugs, but the major ones are:
- The simulator works only on a PC configured to use the dot as the decimal separator (won't work on a French or Spanish PC). I currently have no plan to fix that bug, unless I receive a specific request to fix it.
- When adding / removing Ground or Creature attributes during the execution of a simulation, the result is un-predictable (most of the time you will have just many error messages, but sometime the rpogram may just hang). For such changes it is better to re-start the simulation. However changing parameters and functions or programs associated to existing attributes should not cause any problem. This bug will probably not be fixed.
