En opinión de Labayru este es el genuino escudo de Vizcaya utilizado desde el siglo XV hasta finales del XVII.

Desaparecen los lobos de los Haro y el león que sujeta el escudo. Los leones de la bordura son sustituídos por sotueres de gules y el escudo se rodea de hojas de roble.
