How to participate ?

From the beginning of MARCH to the end of MAY 2020,

CAPTURE AND SEND US hornets from your regions!

BUILD YOUR SELECTIVE TRAP

When ? From the beginning of March to the end of May

How many queens captured ? 10 queens is enough !!!

How to build it ?

Material : plastic bottle (1.5 L), brown beer, red fruit syrup, sponge.

Method : Cut a bottle in half. Drill a hole about 8.5 mm in diameter in the lid before replacing it at the entrance of your trap. Drill 5 mm holes on the sides of the bottle. Pour a mixture of red fruit syrup and brown beer into the bottom of the bottle and place a sponge in this mixture.

/!\ Beware, this type of trap is effective in trapping Asian hornets but one of its drawbacks is that it is not 100% selective, it also traps other insects. In order to limit your impact on other insect species, remember to respect our different recommendations (sponge, small holes, monitoring of the trap, period of exposure of the trap).

KEEP AN EYE ON IT REGULARLY!

If you've caught Asian hornets in your trap:

  • Place your trap in the fridge for at least 2 hours to anesthetize the insects.
  • Collect the anesthetized hornet queens.
  • Place them in the freezer (indicating the location and the date of capture on a piece of paper to be placed with the samples).
  • FREE ALL OTHER INSECTS.
  • Replace your trap up to 10 captured queens.

If you don't see Asian hornets in your trap:

  • Free all insects from your trap.
  • Replace your trap.

REMOVE DEFINITIVELY YOUR TRAP FROM THE 10 QUEEN CAPTURES OR END OF MAY.

SEND YOUR QUEENS

As soon as you have collected 10 queens or at the end of the season (end of May), place the samples in a parcel and send it to the address below (don't forget to tell us the date and place of capture of each sample)
