I have worked with desktop publishing for many years, and love the way that text, images, and other objects in a layout that is visually appealling. While I enjoy working with Word because of its familiarity, exploring Adobe In-Design in the Creative Cloud Suite allowed me to understand that manipulating text boxes and images does not allow or the precise positioning that In-Design does. In this project, we were tasked with redesigning job aids for several of our courses. This is one of several that I created with In-Design.
There were some cons though to using In-Design that caused us to revert back to using Microsoft Word. The biggest impact was on updates to the documents. We discovered that faculty and TAs cannot easily edit the .pdf documents and so while using In-Design was good for minute alignment, it forced us to have to make minor edits.
