MMV Coin Cleaning Contest Prize

For winning the Greek portion of the MMV Coin Cleaning contest with the following Greek coin, I won 2 Julius Caesar silver denarii. The first one is the authentic one, the second a modern fake.

This coin is from PTOLEMAIS-AKE, PHOENICIA- AE15. (2.4g).

Obv: Jugate heads of Dioskuroi right.

Rev: Cornucopia. Reference for this coin is Lindgren 2311; SG 6046. Ptolemais-Ake was a small ancient port city in Phoenicia to the south of Tyre. Minted 174-165 BC.

This is the authentic Julius Caesar coin. It was minted in 46 BC.

Obverse: DICT ITER COS TERT Head of Ceres right, wreathed with corn.

R: AVGVR PONT.MAX simpulum, sprinkler, jug and lituus (emblems of the augurate and pontificate) D on reverse. Sear 1403/1. 20 mm 3.29 g 190 degree die axis

This is the modern fake.

Obverse: DICT ITER COS TERT Hd.of Ceres r., wreathed with corn.

R: AVGVR PONT.MAX simpulum, sprinkler, jug and lituus (emblems of the augurate and pontificate) M on reverse. Sear 1403/2 (if it were real). 15.5 mm 2.42 g 75 degree die axis. It is too small of a diameter and weight to be authentic.
