Lodging

Wileys Last Resort is a primitive campground, known locally as "The Primitive Campground at the End of the Whirled."

There are plenty of flat places to tent camp and a few places for a small RV, trailer or pop-up canopy. Large RV's will not fit.

The campground has a shower and a flush toilet. There is a small kitchen with a stove, small appliances (coffee maker, griddle etc) and three refrigerators.

There are also two historic and very old log cabins (photo below) that are unheated. Many campers at Wileys enjoy sleeping in these primitive cabins.

For those who prefer motel or B&B style lodging, there are four options close to Wileys:

  • Happy Mountain Lodging has two modern cabins on a different part of Pine Mountain. To see photos, or for more information, visit their website http://www.happymountainlodging.com/ or call Cathy Sumpter at (606) 633-8013

  • The Oven Fork Mercantile Store (on US 119 at the bottom of the Pine Mountain) is a really cool old antique and second-hand store that has one bedroom for rent - generally about $50 a night. Spend the night inside an antique store for a unique experience. http://www.ovenfork.com/ or call Barbara Church at (606) 633-8909.

  • Parkway Inn is a modern motel with a small restaurant on KY 15 just north of Whitesburg http://parkwayinnky.com/

  • Super 8 in Whitesburg http://www.super8.com/hotels/kentucky/whitesburg/super-8-whiteburg-ky/hotel-overview or phone 1-606-633-8888

Recommended restaurants in Whitesburg:

Summit City Lounge has excellent food, live music and also serves alcoholic beverages. Best place in town. It is located on the Main Street in downtown Whitesburg, next to the Harry Caudill library. http://www.summitcitylounge.com/

The Courthouse Cafe also has excellent food. It is across the street from the Letcher County Courthouse, Main Street, downtown Whitesburg

There is also a decent Mexican restaurant in Whitesburg called Las Pena - it's in the same strip mall as Sav-a-Lot on the west side of town
