From KY:

From Louisville or Lexington KY, take I64 east to Winchester KY, then get on the Mountain Parkway east - go past Red River Gorge to Campton. At Campton, take KY 15 south through Jackson and Hazard (take the KY 15 bypass around Hazard) to Whitesburg. At the Whitesburg Wendy's, take the KY15 bypass to the right around Whitesburg and go past the hospital to McDonalds. At McDonalds, turn right on US 119 south and go 4 miles up Pine Mountain. At the top of the mountain, watch for signs that say Little Shepherd Trail. Then start down the mountain and look for the flamingoes on the left. Park in the gravel lot on the left side of the highway

From Nashville or Knoxville, TN:

(From Nashville, take I40 east to Knoxville). From Knoxville, take exit 392 off Interstate 40 to 11W north - go through Rutledge to US 25E. Go north on 25E through Tazewell to Cumberland Gap State Park. Take US 25 into Kentucky and go through Middlesboro up to Pineville KY. At Pineville, turn right onto US119 north and go through Harlan and Oven Fork. Stay on US 119 north heading towards Whitesburg. Near the top of Pine Mountain, look for the flamingoes on the right. Park in the gravel lot on the right side of the highway. (If you reach the Whitesburg McDonalds, you have missed the site - turn around and go back up the mountain).

From Johnson City, TN:

Take I26 to US 23 north through Virginia into Kentucky. As soon as you cross the Kentucky state line, you will head down a huge mountain. At the bottom of the mountain, turn left onto US 119 south. Go 10 miles to Whitesburg. When you see McDonalds, turn left onto US 119 south. Go 4 miles up the mountain. At the crest of the mountain, watch for signs that say Little Shepherd Trail. Start down the mountain and look for the flamingoes on the left. Park in the gravel lot on the left side of the highway.

From WV:

From Charleston or the Coal River Valley, take US 119 south through Williamson into KY. At the T intersection in Pikeville turn left onto US 23 south - which is also US 119 south. Drive to Jenkins KY and take US 119 south on the right. Don’t go into Virginia! Drive 10 miles to Whitesburg McDonalds. At McDonalds turn left on US 119 south and go 4 miles up the mountain. At the top of the mountain, watch for signs that say Little Shepherd Trail. Then start down the mountain and look for the flamingoes on the left. Park in the gravel lot on the left side of the highway

From Huntington WV, take I64 west across the Big Sandy River into Kentucky, then left onto US 23 south. Stay on US 23 south through Pikeville. Drive to Jenkins KY and take US 119 south which goes off to the right. Don’t go into Virginia! Drive 10 miles to Whitesburg McDonalds. At McDonalds turn left on US 119 south and go 4 miles up the mountain. At the top of the mountain, watch for signs that say Little Shepherd Trail. Then start down the mountain and look for the flamingoes on the left. Park in the gravel lot on the left side of the highway.

From VA:

Take I81 south to Kingsport, TN. Take I26 - US 23 north through Big Stone Gap and Wise into Kentucky. As soon as you cross the state line, you will head down a huge mountain. At the bottom of the mountain, turn left onto US 119 south. Go 10 miles to Whitesburg. When you see McDonalds, turn left onto US 119 south. Go 4 miles up the mountain. At the crest of the mountain, watch for signs that say Little Shepherd Trail. Then start down the mountain and look for the flamingoes on the left. Park in the gravel lot on the left side of the highway.
