PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE
Mission Statement: Lake Wales Care Center is a faith based community service organization which demonstrates Christ's love by building bridges between people in need and people with a desire to serve.
People helping people helping people...That's Lake Wales Care Center. That's its function, its purpose, its reason for being.
Like most American towns, Lake Wales has some needy people-for whatever reason, they need food, or clothing, or medical help, or shelter, or home-bound care, or a mentor. Lake Wales also has some compassionate people. People who are able to help and who recognize and honor the Biblical instruction to help a neighbor in need. They are willing to give generously of their time, their resources, their talents and their expertise.
Between these two groups, there exists a wide gulf. How does one group reach the other without the risk of lost time, wasted resources, and misplaced effort? That is where Care Center functions: bridging the gap, enabling one group to reach the other. Care Center staff and volunteers give of their time and talents...in a most practical way; they become the PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE.
Lake Wales Care Center is currently celebrating our 25th Anniversary, watch the video below to hear what people around the community are saying about the past 25 years!
As one continues onward on the road to helping others, they move outward. The individual, the groups, the school—now the community is reached; more people are touched. To give back to the community is essential to our understanding of what it means to help. It is with this credence I continue to do all I can to better mankind, if even in the smallest of acts. The biggest pull for my community involvement has been Lake Wales Care Center. The extent of all they do—of all the lives they touch—is unfathomable. I have only begun to dip my foot into the water of their support in the various volunteering I have done. I am fortunate to have been a participant in the Care Center’s Stay-at-Home Work Camp for the last seven consecutive summers, as well as on many other separate occasions. Up to a week’s time is spent as a willing laborer in the great sun; we paint, de-roof and re-roof, and even demolish houses. We give. The “work camp” idea was even taken to serve as Hurricane Katrina relief in Moss Point, Mississippi. On three separate occasions, I gave the work of my hands to those needing it.
