Brief Bio:
Jorge E. Hurtado is a full professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Manizales Branch, since 1986. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Manizales; he received his master in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics, and his doctoral degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña, Barcelona, Spain. Additionally, he has completed several courses in the area of structures including, a specialization in structures and strength of materials (Construction Institute. St. Petersburg, Russia), the International Seminar on Administration of Disaster Prevention (National Land Agency. Tokio) and the XIV International Course on Earthquake Engineering (UNAM. Mexico). He is author of the book "Structural Reliability: Statistical Learning Perspectives", and he has authored/co-authored numerous papers to leading journals in the field including Structural Safety, Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics, Composites Science and Technology, ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Nonlinear Dynamics, Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Journal of Structure and Infrastructure Engineering, Engineering Structures, Acta Materialia, Computational Materials Science, along with others. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Structural Safety.
His research interests are random vibrations, stochastic mechanics, numerical methods, statistical learning theory, machine learning, probabilistic models, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, structural control, structural reliability.
