Earthquake Engineering and Seismology Group

Our research interests are mainly focused on: (i) developing tools and methodologies for the assessment of the seismic behavior of structures, (ii) the rational quantification of the effects of uncertainties on the performance, reliability and safety of engineering systems, and (iii) the generation and modeling of new materials for construction.

The research and education of the members reflect the above spectrum of applications. Our objectives are to study theoretical/applied techniques in the following main areas:

1. Analysis, modeling and instrumentation of civil engineering structures subject to seismic effects.

2. Structural reliability applied to seismic risk based on dynamic analysis.

3. Active control of structures against seismic effects.

4. Improvement of numerical modeling techniques in computational stochastic mechanics.

5. Numerical modeling of the propagation of seismic waves considering local topographic effects, in a mountain environment.

6. Performance-based earthquake engineering.

The research group on Earthquake Engineering and Seismology includes researchers and students from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Manizales branch.
