Rigid-body dynamics studies the behavior of systems of interconnected bodies under the action of external forces. The assumption is that the bodies are rigid, which means they do not deform. It is used to simplify mechanical systems. It can get reasonable results with much less computational resources. It is widely used in industries to speed up design and development process. Results from rigid body dynamics simulation can later be used for detailed structure design using or coupling with FEA and CFD, or other physics calculation tools.
