In 1927, 6 small towns in eastern Iowa, Anamosa, Tipton, West Liberty, Marion, Maquoketa, and Monticello came together to form a golf league called the Eastern Iowa Golf Association. Over the years, more small towns became part of this golfing fraternity. Members of these golf clubs competed in dual meets throughout the summer, enjoying the friendly competition and meeting fellow golfers from other golf clubs. No fee was charged to play in these events, but in 1991 it was decided to ask participating golfers to contribute to a scholarship fund designed to support graduating seniors in their quest for higher education. In the beginning, two $500 scholarships were given. One of the scholarships automatically went to a student from the club hosting the Fall Tournament. The other went to an at-large recipient.  This guaranteed that at least once every nine years a scholarship went to every club in the Eastern Iowa Golf Association. These scholarships were increased to $750 in 1993. In 1998 the scholarship increased to $1000 scholarship for the two recipients. It was then changed to four $500 scholarships in the year 2000 and then in 2001 nine scholarships in which every club had a scholarship recipient that received $500.  In 2005, scholarships increased to $750 and then to $800 starting in 2013. In 2023, the EIGA increased the scholarship to $900. And in 2024, the EIGA increased to $1,000. Since its inception, the EIGA has provided scholarships to its members totaling over $197,000! The selection is based on school and community activities, academics, citizenship, and the student’s involvement in golf.
