Eastern Iowa Golf Association
In 1927, six small towns in eastern Iowa, Anamosa, Marion, Tipton, West Liberty, Maquoketa, and Monticello came together to form a golf league entitled the Eastern Iowa Golf Association. Over the years the makeup of this league changed, some golf clubs joining and others leaving. Today four of the founding golf clubs, Anamosa, Tipton, West Liberty, and Monticello, along with six others, Bellevue, Central City, Dyersville, Mount Vernon, Solon, and Wahkonsa comprise the golfing fraternity known as the Eastern Iowa Golf Association (EIGA).
Members of these 10 golf clubs compete in dual meets throughout the summer, enjoying the friendly competition and meeting fellow golfers from other clubs. The summer competitions conclude with an EIGA Fall Tournament. This tournament rotates each year to a different golf club, allowing each club to be the host once every ten years. Each golf club has golfers who qualify for this tournament throughout the summer. The 2-day Fall Tournament awards individual and team awards. In 1991 the EIGA started awarding scholarships to graduating high school students. The first year 2 high school seniors were awarded $500 scholarships. The scholarship program has grown to where the Eastern Iowa Golf Association now awards ten $1000 scholarships, one to each golf club! Since 1980, the club hosting the Fall Tournament has inducted some of its members into the EIGA Hall of Fame. As of 2023, 82 golfing brothers have been honored with induction into the Hall of Fame. These members have represented their golf clubs and local towns of eastern Iowa with the highest standards of sportsmanship and golf citizenship. In addition to the EIGA Fall Tournament, an EIGA Seniors Fall Tournament has been added to the tournament schedule. Club members over the age of 50 can compete in this Eastern Iowa event.
