Questions are regularly asked by leaders attending HH for the first time or those who may have experienced challenges in prior years. Below is a list of tips and advice from veteran HH Troop Leaders:
Got girls who get car sick? Have parents provide Sea-Band motion sickness wrist bands. They work great for most motion sickness kids in my experience (cost about $12, available at CVS, Walgreens, etc.)
Nighttime bathroom trips. Bring a small lantern (like the dollar store kind) to put under a bunk bed. It will provide enough light for the pathway without being disruptive to girls sleeping. If time permits you can also have the girls paint some plastic bottle or container with glow in the dark paint for a make-your-own camp lantern.
Picky eaters or girls with special dietary restrictions. All meals are family style which allows the girls to pick and choose what they want from the meal that’s served. The HH staff works tirelessly to ensure all food served is peanut-free. The meals are also fairly gluten-free-friendly (enough that any girls with celiac have meal choices, but may have to forgo one item of the meal).
Toiletries. They take up space in everyone’s bags and are yucky when they leak. Instead of having every girl pack their own, have them just bring their toothbrush and you bring one set of troop toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste).
