Getting Started

This is a guide aimed at players and not world builders. [This section needs to be updated.]

Download the client from here.

Account creation

After you connect to our server, type 1 to create a new account, and answer the questions. You can also log in as a guest by typing guest.

Character creation

We strongly recommend that you use the Beginner creation method for your first steps in the MUD, otherwise it's likely that your character will be too difficult to play.

What to do?

Basic commands

You move from room to room by typing one of the direction commands:

n, s, w, e, nw, ne, sw, se, u, d (north, south, west, east, northwest, northeast, southwest, southeast, up, down)

You can also use CTRL + the numpad arrows (including diagonals); make sure that 'Num Lock' is not activated.

A text description of your environment is given. Try exploring the city (see the map below) to get familiar with this movement system. Press ENTER to reread a description.

Where to go and how to fight

Find the planar portal in the northern part of town, and type:

enter vegelia

If you get lost, you can teleport back to the tavern. Type:

recall

Memorise where the entrance is and move around until you find a creature. The command to attack is:

a {target's name}

Graphical client: you can also left client yout target in the battle window.

Pay attention to your hit points (HP). If you are hurt too badly, wait until your health regenerates or go back to a safe square and rest. The portal's square is safe.

You gain experience points from killing creatures. You can view your experience points and the rest of your character sheet by typing:

sheet

Graphical client: you should instead click the scroll button.

Back to town

As you kill more monsters, you will gain more experience. You will need 1,000 experience points to advance to level 2, which shouldn't take too long. You might notice that some monsters drop gold when they die, and some don't (usually animals don't carry gold). It is recommended that you go to the portal and deposit your gold from time to time not to lose it in case you die.

Eventually, you will gather enough gold to buy your first shield: the light wooden shield which costs 300 copper or 3 gold coins. You can buy it from the druid seller in the market of Nalamil. The command to talk to an NPC is:

talk

Graphical client: you can also click the NPC name. NPCs have an exclamation mark icon.

The command to buy something is:

buy {item}

Graphical client: click the icon with the little sword & shield to view your inventory.

Graphical client configuration

Background and sound

You can change the background with the configure button (the gears at the bottom right of the screen). You can also disable/enable sounds with that button.

Macros

From the menu at the top of your screen, click Game > Configure > Macros to configure your macro keys.

Note: you really shouldn't mess with anything else in those menus unless you are an advanced user.

Numpad

From the menu at the top of your screen, click Game > Configure > Keypad to configure the gamepad.

Make sure that 'Num Lock' is not enabled.
