伯大尼建於十九世紀末，是法國外方傳教會為遠東地區的傳教士建成的療養院。很多傳教士在伯大尼康復，也有不少傳教士在此離世。

關勤正是一位神學畢業生，他跟教會傳道人白念良先生相戀。數年後白念良因心臟病不幸離世，關勤正背負著這個秘密為白念良在伯大尼舉辦喪禮。還未從白念良死亡中走出來的關勤正，在喪禮中他要面對不知情的弟兄姊妹，也要面對曾跟他是好朋友，白念良的妹妹白念恩。這死結緊緊的纏著關勤正，但也因著這執念的引領，他看到了伯大尼神父的工作，開始從絕望中找尋死亡的意義。

Béthanie was built in 1875 as a sanatorium by Paris Foreign Missions Society to serve as a place for priests and missionaries from Asia to recover from tropical disease before returning to their missions. Though many priests had nursed back to health, Béthanie had suffered many deaths as well.

Kwan Kun Ching, a theologian, was romantically related to the Christian missionary Pak Lim Leung. Few years later, Pak passed away due to heart disease. Traumatised, Kun Ching buried the secret of their relationship, while arranging the funeral. On the day of the ceremony, Kun Ching met his fellow congregants and Pak Lim Yan, Lim Leung’s sister; yet the knot in his heart grew even tighter. His devastation guided him to encounter with a priest in Béthanie. He started seeking for the meaning of death in the sea of despair.
