Nonchord Tones
In melodies, you will often encounter notes that do not fit into the underlying harmony. These are called nonchord tones and they help to embellish a melody and add even more color and uniqueness to a piece of music. In this unit, you will learn about seven types of nonchord tones, passing tones, neighboring tones, changing tones, appogiaturas, escape tones, anticipations, and suspensions.
