The DEGC is a social golf club and we value honesty and courtesy in our members.
The club plays by the normal rules of golf. The club has some rules that may be different, se below:
A lost ball can be played from the edge of the fairway (no nearer the hole) with a two shot penalty
A ball that lands out of bounds (white stakes with black segment) can be played from the edge of the fairway (no nearer the hole) with a two shot penalty
The following has a one shot penalty
Ball in a lateral water hazard (red or yellow stakes)
Ball Unplayable
Air swing
Playing wrong ball
Hitting another players ball with your putt
The maximum score per hole is 5 over for individual events and 3 over for team events
These are the different Event types for the Double Eagle Golf Club Tournaments. The club plays thte folowing with code:
A. Individual Events generally as stableford)
B. Team Events as pairs, threes or fours
M. Matchplay Events (general as one on one with stableford determining the winning hole
More details are provided below:
The club plays individual games as stableford, as GA handicaps are based on stableford scores and it also helps to speed up play. Stableford is calculated by taking the raw score on a hole and subtracting your Indexed handicap. The net score will receive:
1 point for a bogey (1 over par)
2 points for a par
3 points for a birdie (1 under par)
4 points for an eagle (2 under par)
5 points for a Albatross/Double Eagle (3 under par)
6 points for a Condor (4 under par)
A score above bogey receives zero points, therefore, the club has a maximum of 5 over per hole or zero stableford points policy. At this point you must pick up your ball and move to the next hole.
The club plays pairs, threes or four person Ambrose.
The format is that each player hits off the tee, the best shot is selected, and the other players picks up their ball and place it, within one hand span, alongside the best ball. Each player then hits a second shot from the same spot. The best shot is again selected. This continues until the ball is in the hole. The club uses a maximum score of 3 over par on any hole – allowing a team to pick up a ball when that score is reached.
The lie of the chosen best ball determines the lie of all corresponding shots. That is, if the “best ball” is played from within a hazard then each of the player's balls must be played from within that hazard, within one hand span. The position of the ball will be marked by a tee or marker.
On the putting green the best ball is marked, and the other ball is played from this position. (If in a 4 person Ambrose competition a group is reduced to three players – an extra putt is allowed by just one player)
During the course of the round all player's drives must be used on a set number of occasions as all members handicaps contribute to overall handicap). The club rule is to use a minimum of:
· 2 drives per player in a group of 4-Ambrose,
· 3 drives per player in a group of in 3-Ambrose
· 4 drives per player in a group of in 2-Ambrose
One score is thus recorded on each hole. This is the sum of the best shots used throughout the hole. The scorecard should indicate which player’s drive was used on each hole – or at least the minimum drives used.
A combined handicap is used to calculate a net score. (see handicap calculation)
A team Captain is selected to make decision on the best ball and other tactics.
