One of the confusing things about The Great Gatsby is that a lot of people make brief appearances in the book for no obvious reason. Consider the possibility that their presence in the book is to reveal something about the main characters. If this is true, what purpose do the following people serve (i.e., what do we learn about either Nick or Gatsby because of their presence?)
