INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE 1,2 Full Year

Course Length: 2 Semesters Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12

Credit per Semester: 1.0 Prerequisite: None

(Humanities or Elective) Introduction to Theatre is an introductory study of theatre arts. It will cover acting, stagecraft, theatre history, viewing and evaluating, review writing, etc. Activities include voice development, basic movement, pantomime, and improvisation, all of which culminate in scene performance.

INTERMEDIATE THEATRE Full Year

Course Length: 2 Semesters Grade 10, 11, 12

Credit per Semester: 1.0 Prerequisite: Introduction to Theatre 1,2

(Humanities or Elective) or Teacher approval

This course will combine acting, directing, design and technical production skills. Included in this course will be script analysis and performance, technical design in lighting, set, sound, props, costumes and basic directing skills. Students will be expected to produce a one-act festival at the end of the semester. Students will be allowed to choose between technical design and acting. Directors will be chosen based on experience

ADVANCED ACTING Full Year

Course Length: 2 Semesters Grade: 10, 11, 12

Credit per Semester: 1.0 Prerequisite: Introduction to Theatre 1,2

(Humanities or Elective) or Teacher approval

This course covers a wide variety of advanced acting methods to include acting styles, improvisation, stage movement, auditioning, script analysis, scene study, portfolio preparation and script writing. The course will also include an 8-week study of the technical aspects of the theatre, and students may be assigned to technical duties for various performing arts productions. Students will learn about lighting, sound, set construction, props, publicity, scene painting, costume and makeup.

TECHNICAL THEATER 1 Full Year

Course Length: 2 Semesters Grade: 10, 11, 12

Credit per Semester: 1.0 Prerequisite: None

(Practical Arts or Elective)

This course is open to students who wish to understand the technical aspects of the theater. They will be assigned technical duties for the main stage production of that semester. Students will learn lighting, sound, set construction, props, scene painting, publicity, costumes and make-up in this hands-on course.
