The course implements the shift from geometry as a course in proof to geometry as representation of the world around us. The study of geometry also encompasses its close relationship with algebra by using coordinate and algebraic means to verify the synthetic representations. There is a progressive development of both inductive and deductive reasoning. Throughout the entire course there is a strong emphasis on logical reasoning skills, on the use of a variety of proof styles, on problem solving, on communication skills especially through cooperative learning and mathematical writing skills.
After successfully completing this course, the student will be expected to:
This is a college-preparatory course that is required for graduation. In the spring of 2018, you will sit for the Geometry LEAP 2025 Assessment, which is state-mandated, computer-based assessment the factors into a student’s timely graduation. The exam assesses your skills mastery in the following areas: congruence; similarity, right triangles, and trigonometry; circles; expressing geometric properties with equations; geometric measurement and dimension; and modeling with geometry. Unlike previous EOC exams, this year’s exam is timed and contains several types of questions, including multiple choice, select all answers that apply, drag and drop, short answer, and extended/constructed response.
The LEAP 2025 will report your performance as a scaled score (650-850) that will fall within one of the following achievement bands: Advanced, Mastery, Basic, Approaching Basic, and Unsatisfactory. The following table lists the achievement levels and the level of proficiency attained at each level:

McMain students are expected to complete all assignments and all tests/exams with honesty and integrity. To ensure that all students produce their own work, the following Academic Integrity Policy is enforced. For the purposes of this policy, cheating is defined as “obtaining and submitting (or aiding another to obtain) work or information that is not one’s own.”

General Information:
There is tremendous rigor in this course and daily attendance paired with a positive, hardworking attitude is essential for success. If absent, you will need to speak with me before the class you will be absent from to discuss any missing work. Calling or e-mailing me directly is strongly advised.
In the event of an EXCUSED ABSENCE, students will be expected to complete all missing in-class assignments in the amount of days he/she was absent. For example, if a student is absent for 2 days, he/she will have two days to complete missing assignments. If the excused absence fell on an exam date, the student will be expected to sit the exam the day of their return.
Students who missed class secondary to an unexcused absence, as defined in the Student Handbook, will have an opportunity to turn into completed class- and homework assignments for up to 75% of the original total. No exceptions will be made to this policy. If the unexcused absence fell on an exam date, the student will be expected to sit the exam the day of their return, without penalty.
EXPECTATIONS: The expectations for this course includes All Eleanor McMain Secondary School students will consistently apply the Character Traits of Effective Behavior in our classroom, building, and society.

TARDY & ABSENCES
CLASSROOM CULTURE
We will work hard to have a positive classroom culture, and to celebrate that culture in many ways (positive phone calls, I See You Doing Good notices, increased privileges, PRIDE BUCKS etc.). In instances where that culture is disrupted, consequences will include Miss McFadden and the assistance from the disciplinary team.
COMMUNICATION
I will be asking students to provide me with phone numbers and email addresses for their parent(s) or guardian(s). I will be using a platform called Remind. All parent(s) and guardian(s) are encouraged to download the application on their phones as I will be using Remind to communicate about any major announcements or to contact parents or guardians individually.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Students, as a part of this class, you are to take full responsibility for your learning. After you leave class everyday, you should hold yourself accountable for any homework, projects, or studying that needs to take place. Studying is a big part of this class and will be a contributing factor in your success. If you are having difficulties with a class assignments or activity, it is advisable that you make an appointment to come and see me immediately. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE FAILING THE COURSE. It is your responsibility to seek help. Any student who scores below 80% on an assignment should seek tutoring.
